Integral Networks have recently completed a fibre optic cabling solution for the University of Sheffield. Comprising of three 24-core single mode fibre optic cables linking a main fibre hub bunker to satellite bunkers.
The original wartime RAF camp at Harpur Hill was a top secret facility and was heavily defended. Bombs continued to be stored at the site during the 1950's with the base closing in 1961. After being closed as an RAF base, the tunnels became a mushroom farm for 10 years before being sold to a group of locals.
It was then used as a cold store for cheese and a warehouse was built for dry and bonded wines. The site was recently operated by the Health and Safety Executive Laboratory, which has had a presence on the site since 1947, when it was the Safety in Mines Research Establishment.
Integral Networks have recently installed Category 6a data cabling installations to four bunkers and just interconnected them with single mode fibre.
It always makes a refreshing change when we install cables into unusually environments.
This one will be added to the list of unique sites that Integral have cabled during the last two decades.
